Ellen Fern is the Managing Director at Washington Partners, and has been with the firm for fourteen years. She brings over 20 years of experience in public policy and communications to the firm. Although her career began on Capitol Hill, she has expertise in a variety of areas, including coalition building, grassroots organizing, managing and developing public education campaigns, field services and advocacy.
Before coming to Washington Partners, Ellen spearheaded the inception of the National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, involving 300,000 teens and more than 150 national partner organizations as director of National and Corporate Partnerships at the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy. She also ran the Washington, DC office of the national consulting firm of Martin & Glantz, which specialized in grassroots organizing and communications strategies to affect public policy. Ellen also managed field for VSA Arts, a national organization specializing in developing and promoting art programs for people with disabilities where she was responsible for the daily operations administration of 50 state chapters and the implementation of a new internal structure that resulted in a stronger state network.
She has worked in the legislative arena for Senator Claiborne Pell (D-RI); Congressman Charles Schumer (D-NY); and Congresswoman Claudine Schneider (R-RI).
Ellen holds a Bachelor’s degree in History from Harvard University.
